VOLUME OF CARGOES TRANSPORTED BY MOLDOVAN DRIVERS ON INTERNATIONAL ROUTES INCREASES
“I”.: How does the AITA celebrate its 15th anniversary?
V. F.: The AITA was set up on August 2, 1992, but the working schedule made its corrections and we decided to celebrate this event in October, when a number of important actions in the field of international motor transport will be held in Chisinau. Thus, a sitting of the Committee for Relations with the CIS Countries of the International Road Union (IRU) will take place in Chisinau on October 11. We shall also carry out a solemn evening, where we mark the most successful carriers. The title of the AITA Honored Member will be conferred on the Veteran of the sector Nicolai Aleinov, who made a particular contribution into the development of the Association.
”I”.: They say, you are going to open the Advanced Training Center for your Drivers …
V. F.: Yes, we shall open the Martin Marmy Training Center, which bears the name of the IRU General Secretary, who made a considerable contribution into the development of the Moldovan motor transport, in Chisinau on October 12. Martin Marmy will participate in the opening of the center together with the republic’s leadership. The Club of Automobilists, designed to become a kind of a house, where automobilists will be able to meet for various occasions, will be opened in the building of the center. A monument to the motor carriers of Moldova will be opened in the Dmitrii Cantemir Boulevard. It will be devoted to all the drivers – the former ones and those, who drive their vehicles today.
“I”.: What are the results, the АITA achieved on the eve of the anniversary?
V.F.: The most remarkable is the fact that from year to year the volume of international freight conveyances increases by 12-14%. By the way, in the first half-year of 2007 the Moldovan motor carriers took the first place in the CIS for the efficiency of conveyances. And we are proud of it. Until the end of 2007 Moldovan motor carriers, who are the AITA members, will implement more than 70 thousand trips on the TIR system basis, whereas Kazakhstan makes 28 thousand a year and Azerbaijan - 6 thousand. There are more than 450 motor transport companies, which have more than 5.5 thousand vehicles. Though it is expensive, our companies make investments into EURO-4, EURO-5 vehicles, which are in demand for motor conveyances in the European Union. We achieved good results owing to a constructive partnership between the transport business and state.
“I”.: Can you name the most complicated problems of motor carriers?
V.F.: The main problem is to receive visas. Unfortunately, even the joint Visa Application Center, which was opened in Chisinau in spring, is not efficient enough. During the latest period, there are difficulties even with Romanian visas.
“I”.: And what is Your idea of Your sector after five years?
V.F.: I hope, many large authoritative companies will act in it. Small companies, which do not work regularly, will refuse from international freight conveyances. And the management of the sector will be on a higher level and vehicles – on the EURO-5 level, at least a half of them. I also hope that our drivers, working abroad, will return to work at home and the volume of the industrial output in Moldova will increase, so that we shall be able to work much more for our market. For the time being, 70% of the routes are connected with third markets.
