YOUTH FROM SIX EUROPEAN COUNTRIES PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL PROJECT IN VADUL-LUI-VODA

04 july, 2014

A group of 38 young people from six European countries – Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, Italia and the Netherlands are participating in the international project called “It’s Time to Drop the Curtains!” in Vadul-lui-Voda (June 27 to July 4).

The event was organized by Rock Solid Foundation from Lunteren (The Netherlands) in partnership with other five youth organizations from the participating countries and is financed within the European Commission Program Youth in Action. The Moldovan organization-partner is Center of Young Journalist.

In interview to Infotag correspondent, the project manager Niels van Maanen of the Rock Solid Foundation said that the project aims to promote knowledge and intercultural relations among young people from different regions of Europe.

“The project’s main topic is the European citizenship and different matters related to it. For example, how we define Europe from the geographical and economical point of view, which are socio-cultural differences between Eastern and Western Europe, which are basic European values: democracy, multiculturalism and diversity, respect for human rights”, said Niels van Maanen.

According to him, another objective of this project is developing the participants’ skills, such as leadership or projects’ management not only to motivate them to be socially active citizens, but also to give them more information about possibilities of growth the EU provides to young people within the new European Commission Program for youth Erasmus Plus.

“The project includes informal methods of teaching: seminars, team work activities, role plays, debates. Another key part of the event are cultural evenings, where each team presents their country’s culture and traditions”, said he.

To learn more about Moldova, the participants were invited to visit the touristic complex Orheiul Vechi and Chateau Vartely winery.

“Moldova is a beautiful country with a great potential, but it needs a larger promotion in Europe. This is one of causes why we decided to organize this project in the Republic of Moldova. The project’s main topic – the European citizenship - is very relevant in Moldova, as well as in Ukraine and Georgia, within the context of their EU Association Agreements’ ratification”, said the project manager.

Infotag’s dossier: “It’s Time to Drop the Curtains!” is the second international project realized by the Rock Solid Foundation in the Republic of Moldova. The first one was organized in 2008 in partnership with the Young Journalist Center.
