“STEFAN CEL MARE” INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL STARTS IN MOLDOVA

The 2nd International Festival “Stefan Cel Mare” is being held in Moldova on July 2-5, dedicated to 511th anniversary of death of the Gospodar [king] of Moldova Stefan Cel Mare (1433-1504).

In the morning, the Moldovan leadership laid flowers to the Stefan cel Mare’s monument, while at 11:00 a memorial service was held. A cultural symposium “Stefan cel Mare – The founder of the nation and country – Becoming of our destiny” is being conducted in Chisinau National Library.

In the evening, the official opening of the festival will take place in Stefan Cel Mare Park, within which a concert with participation of local and foreign collectives will be held, as well as a screening of films, which will be held each evening during the festival. On Friday and Saturday, national consumes’ evenings and concerts will be organized. On Sunday popular parades will be held in Ialoveni, Criuleni and Cigarleni, as well as concerts. The festival will end on July 5 in Chisinau by a concert with participation of Moldovan and foreign singers.

Infotag’s dossier: Stefan Cel Mare aka Stephen the Great reigned the Moldovan principality almost half a century. Over 47 years in power, he participated in 48 wars, 44 of which he won. He founded a lot of churches and monasteries. Stefan cel Mare was canonized on July 15, 1992. The Moldovan church celebrates the day of Stephen the Great and Holy on July 2, in the day of his death.
