​FREE ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION PROCEDURE AVAILABLE FOR MEDICAL POLICY HOLDERS

On the basis of medical insurance policy, infertile couples can benefit of free procedure of artificial insemination.

At a press conference Health Minister Ruxanda Glavan said that this measure entered into force on Friday. According to the regulation, families that have medical insurance and want to benefit of this procedure, should address to family doctor, who will issue a referral to undergoing medical investigation and the very procedure in the Center for reproductive health and medical genetics in the Chisinau Mother and Child Institute.

A special commission will approve the providing of free procedure and couples can choose the medical institution in which they want to undergo the artificial insemination. The cost of the procedure (31,729 lei) will be completely covered by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM). However, the cost of medicines for treating family couples that may reach 25 thousand lei will be covered by beneficiaries.

According to Health Ministry, around 140 thousand couples in Moldova are infertile and need artificial insemination.
