28 march, 2017

The second stage of the national campaign “See you in the library!” has started in Moldova. The second stage will promote services provided by local public libraries.

Director of the Novateca program, Evan Tracz reported that over the past five year, thanks to the program, more than 1 thousand libraries were equipped with new technologies and librarians were trained to use them.

“The first stage of the campaign “See you in the library!” took place in 2016. Its goal was public awareness. In the second stage, the libraries themselves carry out all the activities”, said director of the Novateca program.

Starting from April onward, the Moldovan libraries will promote services in different areas.

“The first month is dedicated to the introduction of digital technologies. We are glad that during this month we well have a partner – Daac System Integrator, with the help of which various trainings will be organized on the subject of online safety and cyber-security”, said Evan Tracz.

Director of the Novateca program also added that during the next few months the libraries will host events dedicated to family, non-formal education for children and youth, health, economic development and agriculture.

According to him, the budget of the program is divided into two parts. More than US$4 million was invested in equipping libraries with computers and technology. An average of US$4-5 thousand was provided for each local library.

Infotag’s dossier: The Novateca program is implemented in Moldova with financial support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in partnership with USAID. Its goal is to transform libraries into modern center of communication for people of all ages and interests, receiving information services free of charge.
