MOLDOVAN ROMA’S BARON CALLED CHILDREN’S EDUCATION A PRIORITY OF HIS COUNTRYMEN

10 april, 2017

Artur Cerari, Roma’s baron of Moldova, Chief of the coalition of Roma’s non-governmental organizations, believes that education of their children is priority number one for all Roma.

He said at the press conference on the topic “Roma in contemporary society”, that Roma’s nomadic way of life, unfortunately, had a negative impact on their literacy level.

“Education is a necessity in today’s society. There is also discrimination on the national basis. Despite the fact that Moldova has made a big step toward protection of human rights, this issue is still open. But we will solve these issues. More and more Roma-children obtain a higher education; this will allow us to speed up social integration of our people. We have councilors in many municipalities. And in case of early parliamentary elections our diaspora will nominate its candidate for sure”, promised Cerari.

“We don’t need revolutions and coupes. We are first of all artisans, and education of children and family are our main values”, said the Baron.

Vice-Chairperson of the public association “Belarusian Roma Diaspora”, Artur Gomonov said that Roma in his country send their children to universities and economic education is a priority for them.

Infotag’s dossier: The 8th of April is International Roma Day, widely celebrated in all countries. According to the census of 2014, there are about 13 thousand representatives of this nationality in Moldova.
