​INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN BOOK SALON OPENS IN CHISINAU

The 21st Children and Youth Book Fair has opened in the Chisinau MoldExpo Center on Thursday.

According to its organizers, this year the fair is timed to coincide with the 180th anniversary of popular Moldovan tale-teller Ion Creanga.

“Our main goal is to promote children book. The Salon gives the possibility to familiarize with domestic and foreign publishing houses, participate in contests, meetings conversations and meetings with writers, buy books at favorable prices. During four days, a number of interactive events for children will be organized. Computer can never replace the book, which remains the most efficient instrument for upbringing the new generations”, said National Children’s Library Director Claudia Balan.

The fair gathered more than 110 publishing houses from Moldova, Romania, France, Germany, China, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary. Traditionally, organizers prepared a book-surprise for children. 15 thousand young readers will receive as gift the colorfully decorated story by Ion Creanga “Punguta cu doi bani” [A wallet with two coins]. Librarians will have the possibility to exchange experience with foreign colleagues and receive as gift the book “Book, Library, Reader”.

The International Salon of Book for Children and the Youth is conducted by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, the National Children’s Library and the Union of Moldovan Writers.
