COUNTRY MEDIA MAY GET ASSISTANCE FROM USAID FOR DEVELOPING DEMOCRACY IN MOLDOVA

Independent media outlets of Moldova, especially regional companies, may get professional and financial assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) within the project “Media Enabling Democracy, Inclusion and Accountability in Moldova”.

The project organizers said it is aimed at supporting democracy in the country and strengthening connection with regional auditorium.

“The international company “Internews”, specialized in providing professional services of media empowerment, will be conducting training courses for the selected representatives of the press in the course of the year for contributing to improvement and diversification of their news content. Also during a year the USAID will provide financial assistance to independent media companies”, said Center of Independent Journalism (CIJ) representative Cristina Moghildea.

According to her, a professional jury will choose six media companies, which will be receiving assistance in 2017-2018, while after that the jury will assess their results for providing many-year assistance.

“To the contest are invited all media companies, registered in Moldova: radio stations, newspapers, internet portals, TV channels. The jury will assess the policy of the organization, directed to providing reliable and quality information, observation of journalist ethics, desire to improve the working capacity, originality and openness to experiments. In their turn, organizers will provide everything necessary for successful training of journalists”, she said.

Applications may be submitted till August 22. For this, candidates should provide a motivation letter and a strategic plan, where the organization’s goals will be established for the nearest five years.
