MINISTER ANNOUNCES EDUCATION SYSTEM GOALS AND TASKS FOR 2018

The main task of the Moldovan education system in 2018 is to keep an efficient training of students, said Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc at the Friday’s press conference.

She said that the Ministry is open for cooperation and pays attention to all the initiatives and proposals.

“In this way, together with local authorities and parents, two primary schools will be opened in the village of Firladeni (Hincesti raion) and Iarova (Soroca raion), I order that children to have access to education. Since September 1, a school will be opened in Bolohani village (Orhei raion). In the new year, we will consider the initiative on opening several more schools”, the Minister said.

According to her, the number of mandatory disciplines in lyceum classes will be reduced to six.

“Our students demonstrate great results at the international level, including while moving abroad. Both students and their parents maintain that the curriculum is overloaded. Our goal is not to simplify it, but to modernize it in order that students to be interested in acquiring knowledge, to come to school with pleasure and find out new things. We agree that in lyceum classes the number of obligatory disciplines should be reduced and add three disciplines at students’ discretion to help graduates in professional orientation and studying their rights”, the Minister said.

She added that starting from January 1, the decree on reducing the number of reports teachers are required to present by 36% will enter into force.

“In the period of January 15 through February 15, all the teachers will be trained to write reports, in order that the documents to contain only important information for fruitful cooperation. In 2018, 17 million lei will be allocated from the budget for teachers’ advanced training. The Ministry is seeking to introduce innovations, permanently consults with teachers, professors, parents, students, national and foreign experts in order that schoolchildren to be provided a decent education in our country”, she said.
