23 february, 2018

A group of Moldovan Armed Forces veterans received state awards from Moldovan President Igor Dodon on the occasion of the former Day of Soviet Army. The head of the state wrote about this on his Facebook page.

“On February 23, the USSR was celebrating the Day of Soviet Army and the Navy. This was a holiday for everyone who was in the army of this great country, including our parents, grandparents, great grandparents, relatives, acquaintances, neighbors. Many people still celebrate the Day of Motherland Defender. I want to cordially great all the real men, who served their country and I trust that they will be able to stand for protecting it”, Dodon wrote.

He wrote that he handed over state awards to eight Armed Forces veterans for special merits in the field of defense and state security, a contribution in development of veteran movement and active participation in military-patriotic training of the young generation.

He also wrote that he supported the initiative of organizing a concert in honor of this day, to which Second World War veterans will be invited, as well as members of the Moldovan Officer Union and Afghanistan war veterans will be invited. The concert will take place on Saturday with participation of many Moldovan singers. Special guest is Russian singer Alexander Marshal and ensemble “Blue berets”.

Unlike Russia and Transnistria, February 23 is not a day off or a holiday in Moldova. The day of the Moldovan National Army is marked on September 2.
