SINGERS FROM 13 COUNTRIES TO PARTICIPATE IN MARTISOR 2018 MUSICAL FESTIVAL

The 52nd international musical festival “Martisor 2018” will gather singers from 13 countries, including from Italy, Argentina, Georgia, Belarus and Sweden in Moldova on March 1 through 1.

At the Monday’s press conference, Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc said that the festival is dedicated to the inclusion of the Moldovan holiday Martisor in the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

“Martisor is not only a beautiful tradition of our people, it is also an element of national pride, which makes us a part of the UNESCO cultural heritage. The Martisor holiday should become an important part in development and preserving of the national cultural heritage, both at the local and international levels. During ten days, Moldovan and foreign artists will be performing in Chisinau concert halls. The festival agenda is made of 54 concerts, one-half of which will be demonstrated in Moldovan raions and four – in Tiraspol”, the minister said.

According to her, for the first time within the history of Martisor Festival, Moldovan singers will perform in Romania, in particular in Iasi at the request of local authorities.

“In Moldova the festival will start on March 1 with a massive concert of Moldovan singers in the National Palace. On March 2, the Moldovan audience will enjoy a show of Pavel Virsky Ensemble from Ukraine, while on March 3 a collective from Buenos Aires will present a tango show “Demon and Angel”. Next days, orchestra “Lautarii” and master Nicolae Botgros will present a show, a concert “Retro Legends” will be organized with participation of musical collective “Samotsvety” from Russia. Besides, a concert of Italian singer Andrea Saracina, accompanied by the Moldovan national chamber orchestra, will take place. Chisinau museums will present new exhibitions dedicated to the holiday”, Babuc said.

The festival “Martisor 2018” will take place with the support of the USAI and the Governments of Sweden, Italy, China, the Czech Republic and Georgia. Its budget is 2.6 million lei, 1 million of which were allocated by partners, while the rest of the money is planned to be redeemed from selling tickets.

Infotag’s dossier: In December 2017, the holiday Martisor was included in the list of the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in the category of cultural practices associated to the 1st of March.
