SIMPALS ANIMATION STUDIO LAUNCHES FIRST VIRTUAL REALITY CARTOON

13 april, 2018

The Moldovan Simpals Studio created the Moldova’s first short-length animated cartoon film “Aripi” (Wings) with using the technology of virtual reality and presented it on Thursday – on the World Cosmonautics Day.

Simpals representative Stoian Marin said at the presentation that the “Aripi” is a story of young Moldovan cosmonaut Nelu and his adventures in spaceship in the open space.

“Due to virtual reality, spectators have the possibility to feel new sensations – the presence effect and the possibility of choosing the direction of visualization. The creation of the cartoon in virtual reality is a challenge not only for company specialists, but also for the entire Moldovan animated industry. Around 40 people worked on creation of the movie, aimed at using complex technical processes for creating quality image, which will long be remembered by viewers”, Marin said.

According to him, the technology of virtual reality allows viewers stay in the middle of events and see the picture with a 360-degree around-view.

“Watching “Aripi” in virtual reality glasses, the viewer will plunge into the atmosphere of spaceship and the open space, as well as will feel all the events together with the central personage. However, the movie may be watched without special glasses as well – on various video websites, including YouTube, though without special effects. In the world there are about 20 cartoons, shot in the virtual reality format, one of which was created in Moldova. This contributes to developing Moldova’s image at international level, making the country more known due to such creative projects”, Marin said.

The movie will be released in summer 2018.
