SWEDISH GOVERNMENT TO ORGANIZE PHOTO EXHIBITION ABOUT REAL MEN

18 april, 2018

An exhibition of photos of Moldovan and Swedish fathers, who give special attention to their children, will be opened in Chisinau on Wednesday with support from the Swedish Government.

According to the Swedish Embassy in Moldova, the exhibition is an opportunity to emphasize the role of fathers in family and in the society in general.

“We hope that the exhibition will inspire men to think more about family life and parent responsibility and they will be proud of an important role of fatherhood they play at home. The event is aimed at supporting the discussion about the equality in family and its influence on the society, as well as raising the question about men and women’s choice between family and work”, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Moldova Signe Burgstaller.

According to her, the system of parental allowances is a relevant topic for each family.

“The Swedish system is one of the world’s most generous, which allows two parents remaining at home with children and receiving compensation worth 80% of the salary from the state in the first 390 days after child birth. In Moldova, working mothers have the right to 70 days before the birth and 56 days after the child birth with 100% salary as compensation. Fathers have the right to only 14 days after child birth with 100% salary. After the expiration of the maternity leave, the insured women are receiving allowance worth 30% of salary”, the Ambassador reminded.

The exhibition was prepared by the Swedish Institute in cooperation with the Swedish Embassy and the UN in Moldova. The photos were captured by Swedish photographer Johan Bavman and Moldovan photographer Mihai Turculet. The exhibition will be open in Shopping MallDova trade center until April 30.
