“CENTENARY FORESTS” TO BE PLANTED IN MOLDOVA AND ROMANIA

18 april, 2018

The recently marked 100th anniversary of the Great Unification [Marea Unire], when Bessarabia became a part of Romania, did not remain unnoticed by the Moldovan and Romania forestry agencies. On the occasion of the remarkable historic date of March 27, 1918, they have decided to plant the so-called “Centenary Forests”.

The Moldsilva Forestry Agency told Infotag that the action was launched last Tuesday: in Moldova’s Hincesti Raion, near the Leuseni customs/border-crossing station, young poplars and ash-trees were planted by joint efforts over an area of 1.7 hectares. And in Romania, in the Ciresi Commune and also in the immediate proximity to the common border, 1918 oaks were planted.

Moldsilva Director Ion Haralampov said that this symbolic action has demonstrated the responsibility of the Moldovan and Romanian forestry authorities for the maintenance of ecological balance and protection of bio-diversity of the Prut River and the border zone.

His Romanian colleague Mihai Daia offered an opinion that the joint action will promote the consolidation of relations between the forestry workers of the two countries and the exchange of positive experience.
