CHISINAU STADIUM OPENS AFTER RECONSTRUCTION

The international tournament of first stages of the European Championship U-18 and of the Junior Olympic Games, which will take place in Buenos Aires in autumn, took place in the Chisinau stadium "Dinamo" in weekend.

These are the first competitions, conducted in the stadium over the last several years after its reconstruction. In particular, the covering of its running tracks, athletics tracks and stadium sectors was replaced.

The tournament gathered track-and-field athletes from Moldova, Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Ukraine, Greece, Armenia, who competed in 20 disciplines. Moldova's best athletes were winner in shotput Nina Capatina (17m 40 cm) and winner in 100-meter run Alexei Culis (11.02 sec).

"I am glad that together with fellow Parliament members we managed to adopt necessary laws for implementing the project on stadium renewal", said Speaker of the Parliament Andrian Candu in his welcoming speech.

The Speaker informed about the fact that projects on renewing and building the sport infrastructure will be further implemented in Moldova.

The modernization and renovation of the athletics track on the Dinamo stadium was conducted within a project of the Ministry of the Interior, the National Olympic Committee, the Moldovan Athletic Federation with the Parliament's support.

The opening ceremony was also attended by President of the European Athletic Federation Svein Arne Hansen, Secretary General of the Moldovan Ministry of Education, Culture and Sciences Radu Rebeja, President of the National Olympic and Sport Committee Nicolae Juravschi, Presidents of the National Athletic Federation and the National Football Federation Anatol Balan and Pavel Cebanu.

According to Anatol Balan, only the first stage of the project has been completed. The installing of electric lighting masts, the rehabilitation of stands, the reconstruction of checkrooms is the second stage.
