CHAMPIONS' COACHES WILL BE RECEIVING LIFELONG ALLOWANCES

23 november, 2018

On Thursday, the Moldovan Parliament approved in a first reading a bill stipulating the repayment of a lifelong monthly allowance to the coaches of athletes who have won medals at Olympic games, at world and European championships.

Depending on the type of the said tournaments and medal values, the coach who has trained the champion or medalist will be receiving 60% to 100% of the average wage size in the Moldovan economy. For calculating the allowance size, the government will be taking the current National Statistics Bureau data on the average wage in the Moldovan economy as in the month that preceded the allowance repayment start.

The allowance will be available only for coaches who have reached the pension age and who have minimum 20 years of professional experience in training athletes. These allowances will be repaid also to coaches who have prepared such champions and medalists in the Soviet epoch [before 1991].

If an athlete is yet serving a punishment for using a doping, his or her coach will be not receiving such allowance.

Coaches can count on yet a higher allowance if they have prepared the winner(s) of several tournaments. In such case, a coach will be given a 100% allowance for the athlete's highest achievement plus 50% for other victories.

If the bill becomes a law without a delay, the repayment of such allowances may be started from January 1, 2019.
