26 november, 2018

Doctor of History, Archaeologist Mark Tkachuk presented an archaeological story about the Rudi hill-fort in the Chisinau Civilizations Library on Sunday.

“The hill-fort is located at the border of the Donduseni and the Soroca raions, approximately 200 km away from Chisinau. Its entire territory accounts for 70 hectares”, the historian said.

According to him, the first archaeological digging was performed by Moscow scientists in Rudi in 1969-1978. The second stage of digging took place in 1995 through 2002.

“That was a joint project, implemented by Moldova’s High Anthropological School in cooperation with British, Romanian and American colleagues. It has not been completed yet”, he said, adding that 11 buildings were identified.

According to him, archaeologists found remnants of skeletons, mostly of children and women, together with bones of animals, including horses, pigs and foxes. Besides, handmade pottery and a spear tip was found there.

After the presentation, all comers had the possibility to admire the rehabilitated pottery and other artifacts, whose age reaches several thousand years.
