PRESIDENT DODON PROPOSES TO USE ICELAND’S EXPERIENCE IN NATIONAL FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT

16 august, 2019

President Igor Dodon proposes to use Iceland’s experience in the Moldovan football development. He wrote on his Facebook page that this topic was discussed at the meeting with the new President of the Moldovan Football Federation, Leonid Oleinicenco.

The meeting participants talked about the football development strategy, including the program on building stadiums for a professional game according to the international standards.

“We have also talked about construction of new sports grounds for the widest possible involvement of the population in football, and first of all young people. It is advisable to use the experience of some foreign countries, such as Iceland, where thanks to the construction of stadium football has become a national sport and the national team has achieved impressive results at the European and World Championships”, noted Dodon.

He also met with the famous Moldovan football player and former coach of the country’s national team Igor Dobrovolschi, who asked the President to consider the possibility of granting him Moldovan citizenship.

“Taking into account his contribution to the formation and development of the Moldovan football, the results achieved by the national team under his leadership, as well as contribution into the strengthening of a positive image of Moldova in the international arena, I displayed openness in solving this issue in accordance with the legislation”, stressed President Dodon.
