GHEORGHE FURTUNA PUBLISHES BIOGRAPHICAL ESSAY ABOUT FIRST DEAN OF FACULTY OF ECONOMICS OF CHISINAU STATE UNIVERSITY

A well-known Moldovan banker, first chairperson of the Moldova-Agroindbank management Gheorghe Furtuna has published a biographical essay “Our Dean” about the first dean of the faculty of economic of Chisinau State University.

According to the author, the essay is dedicated to Marlen Macheenco – a doctor of economics, professor, honored worker of science of the Russian Federation, who had a great influence over the students, future economists of Moldova. Marlen Macheenco passed away in Moscow at the age of 83, in 2018.

“It was a great, wise person with a difficult fate, a wonderful teacher, scientist-economist, researcher in the field of agricultural economics. Almost 10 years of his life and carrier were connected with Moldova (1955-1964), in particular, eight years with the faculty of economy of Chisinau State University, as well as the Institute of Economics of Moldova”, said Furtuna.

He describes interesting cases from his student years, which included three groups of 25 students each, recalling examples from their university life and how extraordinary and originally acted the Dean Marlen Macheenco in these cases. His unusual actions had a pedagogical and human meaning both for the professors and the students.

The brochure is supplemented by rare photographs of historical value. Pictures taken in 1950s of the then main building of the university are also very impressive. In those years, the university was located in the building of the former Chisinau non-classical secondary school, on the corner of the current names of the Pushkin and Kogalniceanu streets.
