On Monday, Chisinau marked the 200th anniversary of the beginning of Alexander Pushkin's Bessarabian exile. The Russian poet's exile began on September 21, 1820.

In the morning it was planned to lay flowers to the bust of Pushkin in the central park of Stefan cel Mare. But late the night before the message about it was canceled. The politician did not take part in the official ceremony.

President Igor Dodon visited Pushkin House Museum, where the poet lived in the first months of the Bessarabian exile.

"To date, the first stage of the reconstruction of the memorial house - overhaul of the roof - has been completed. By the end of the year, internal finishing work will be carried out and the facade will be repaired. I thanked the construction company for the quality work carried out in record time - in just two months," Dodon wrote on his Facebook page.

He recalled that the funds for the reconstruction were allocated by his friend - Russian businessman Igor Chaika.
