EX-PREMIER ION STURZA THINKS IT IS INADMISSIBLE TO PRESS ON POLITICIANS BY ARRESTING THEIR RELATIVES

16 july, 2015

Ion Sturza, a former Moldovan Prime Minister [February-December 1999] and currently a prominent man of business in Romania, believes that the Moldovan law enforcement are putting pressure on the negotiators on forming a new pro-European coalition in Moldova.

On his page in the social networks, Sturza assessed the detention of LDPM Chairman Vlad Filat’s relatives as a psychological pressure on the politician, and called upon all citizens, already living in the conditions of an unprecedented crisis, not to let aggravation of problems and not to make “new breaches in the body of the sinking ship”.

“The history of our country has not seen anything like now – the combination of an economic, budget, fiscal and ethical crisis against the background of the unstable geopolitical situation in Ukraine, Greece and the European Union. Everybody is waiting for autumn in the hope for stabilization, but we have no time. We are facing a risk of remaining without salaries, pensions, and without a possibility of surgical interference”, wrote Ion Sturza.

In his opinion, the country needs to be governed, and this is the job to be done by the political forces that have received the citizenry’s mandate for country governance at the November 30 parliamentary elections.

“I suggest leaving offences and insults until after the current storm, covering our country, passes away. Prosecutors may not place pressure on the politicians taking part in the negotiations. And the politicians must give up attacking state institutions with their populist and demagogical sayings. I don't wish to interfere into the current situation in Moldova, but detention of politicians’ relatives is an unprecedented form of psychological pressure. The law enforcement have no right to go in for politics”, wrote Ion Sturza.

He addressed also to Moldovan politicians defending the pro-Russia vector, and urged them to give up their radical sayings.

“The ‘glory’ of Alexis Tsipras haunts some politicians in Chisinau. They are building kind of strategies against the IMF and European Union along a Moscow-Beijing axis. I would recommend them to calm down, for their mansions are not at Lake Baikal but in Geneva”, Ion Sturza wrote ironically.

Infotag’s dossier: Presently, Ion Sturza runs a number of successful businesses, in particular two investment foundations. Their assets, reaching 400 million euros, work in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, including in Moldova.
