GRANULATED FUEL FACTORY OPENS IN MOLDOVA

31 july, 2015

A factory for processing biomass into solid granulated fuel opened in Pascani village (Criuleni raion) on Thursday under the auspices of “Porumbeni” Institute of Plant Growing.

The factory uses agricultural vegetable waste (straw, grapevine, tree branches), which after shredding will be pressed in granules. The enterprise is planning to produce 5 thousand tons of fuel per season, but in future it production capacities will considerably grow.

The factory has been built within the framework of the Moldovan-Japanese project 2KR, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. Japan will also provide 25 biomass boilers for heating nearby schools, kindergartens and hospitals.

According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Moldova Shigeki Sumi, this will allow ensuring a higher quality of education. He also reminded about the opening in a short time of the Moldovan Embassy in Tokyo, adding that already next year the Japanese Embassy will open in Moldova for ensuring direct dialog between the countries.

Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, who attended the opening ceremony, said that such cheap fuel will allow improving the situation in villages and heating social facilities not with expensive natural gas, but with the fuel made of waste, which used to be thrown away before.

Infotag’s dossier: The 2KR project is being implemented since 2000. Over this time, Japan provided to Moldova 11 grants with total worth of US$37.2 million, as well as more than 7.5 thousand units of agricultural machinery: 4.3 thousand tractors, over 2 thousand units of different agricultural equipment, 520 combiners and 560 small irrigation systems.
