FOREIGN HELP WILL START COMING IN AUGUST – PREMIER FILIP

18 july, 2016

External financial assistance will start coming to Moldova already in August i.e. yet before the signature of the long-waited memorandum on cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip stated on the Prime television channel [Plahotniuc’s] on Sunday evening.

In his words, the negotiations with the IMF mission, which ended its work in Chisinau last Friday, were effective and fruitful.

“We have resolved the tasks set to us, and have negotiated and agreed upon all questions. The negotiations will be continued from Washington DC to resolve some technical issues, for instance how the tax administering of foreign credits will be carried out. It is chiefly important that we have reached a principal accord on signing a new cooperation program with the IMF, so only details are left to settle”, said Pavel Filip.

He stressed that the negotiations with the IMF and the signature of the Memorandum are important first of all as a signal for other external partners.

“Already in August we may start receiving external financial assistance – the first tranche from the credit promised by the Government of Romania yet last autumn. By the end of the current fiscal year, Moldova should receive also US$45 million from the World Bank and not less than 45 million euros from the European Union. We are also counting on US$25 million from the International Monetary Fund. We are not expecting fabulous sums from the IMF. For us, their position is more important what matters, and their recommendations for efficient governance and implementation of reforms”, stated the prime minister.

In his opinion, the results of reform will come to be felt by citizens “already in the nearest future”.

“Over the past half-year, citizens could not notice big changes. But important reforms were implemented and essential laws passed. By the end of this year citizens will start feeling the changes. I am sure that Moldova will enter next year with considerable changes that will be felt by all citizens”, said Premier Filip.
