PRESIDENT IGOR DODON REJECTS RULING COALITION’S CANDIDATES TO LEADING POSTS IN ENERGY SECTOR

15 february, 2017

President Igor Dodon stated that for him candidates, proposed by the current authorities to leading positions in energy sector, are unacceptable. In an interview to Radio Free Europe, he refuted the rumors about his involvement in recent appointment of Vasile Botnari to the post of Moldovagaz Chairman of the Board.

According to him, he did not discuss the issue with appointing a new head of Moldovagaz with Gazprom Head Alexey Miller.

“We did not discuss this issue as this is not my competence. President has no powers in what concerns heads of state companies. Be my will, I would not approve any of candidatures the current authorities appoints as heads of energy sector enterprises. As for candidates, after the upcoming elections the state of things will change”, Dodon expressed confidence.

According to him, during the meeting with Miller, the issues of supplying Russian gas, tariffs for Moldova have been discussed.

“There are chances to lower current tariffs, but not under this regime and not under the current Government”, he said.

Asked about the building of the Iasi-Ungheni and Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline, he said that it is necessary for reducing risks to remain without gas.

“Moldova has a strategic interest to build this gas pipeline. Today, there are great risks to remain without the Russian gas due to problems of its transit through Ukraine. We have to have sources of reliable gas supplying to Moldova”, Dodon stressed.
