MOLDOVA TO BUILD UNGHENI-CHISINAU GAS PIPELINE BY END-2018 – PRIME MINISTER PAVEL FILIP

23 march, 2017

Moldova is planning to complete the building of Ungheni-Chisinau natural gas pipeline by the end of 2018, said Prime Minister Pavel Filip at the joint press conference with the Romanian Premier Sorin Grindeanu in Piatra-Neamt.

Head of the Moldovan Government announced this to journalists, saying that during the joint meeting of Moldovan and Romanian Governments, pleasant news arrived from Brussels that the European Commission decided to increase the grant for building the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline.

“The EC raised the grant to 40 million euros from 10 million”, the Moldovan Premier said, reminding that the Moldovan Government signed credit agreements on financing the building of the gas pipeline by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

According to Filip, the gas pipeline project will be ready in the nearest time, after which its building will start.

Answering to journalists’ question if Russia intends to supply gas to Turkey bypassing Romania, Grindeanu said that Bucharest and Chisinau are optimistic and hope for a successful implementation of Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline building.

Romanian Premier also spoke for accelerating the building of the highway Tirgu-Mures – Iasi – Ungheni and its extension to Chisinau.

“It would be great to implement this project now not to return to it later. There is a need to connect Moldova with Transylvania”, Grindeanu said.
