MOLDOVAN PRIME MINISTER WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN CIS PREMIERS' MEETING IN RUSSIA

25 may, 2017

Prime Minister Pavel Filip will not take part in the meeting of CIS Council of Heads of Government to be held in Kazan city. The Cabinet of Ministers decided on Wednesday that instead of the Premier, Moldova will be represented by Moldovan Ambassador to Russia Andrei Neguta.

Commenting on this decision, President Igor Dodon wrote on his Facebook page that the Moldovan Government is again boycotting CIS activities.

"This time it is the meeting of CIS Heads of Governments, which will be held on May 26 in the city of Kazan (Central Russia). I express my regret about this fact and I regard it as a new demarche against our strategic partner - the Russian Federation, an attempt to block the resumption of our strategic partnership and development of relations between our countries", Dodon said.

He expressed hope that Andrei Neguta will represent the country not worse than the Moldovan Government's leadership.

"Over the first two months of my presidency, I conducted several important meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, State Duma [parliament] Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, head of the Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev and a number of other high-ranked Russian officials. These meetings gave an additional impetus to the dynamics of Moldova-Russia relation development", the President said.

He wrote that due to these contracts, over the last several months the exports of Moldovan goods to Russia grew 42%, the problem of amnesty for dozens of thousands of Moldovan migrants, who are working in Russia, was resolved, negotiations are being conducted on interregional cooperation and many other joint projects.

"We will continue intensively establishing, extending and strengthening our cooperation. We intend to discuss many new questions on our bilateral relations with the Russian leadership on the margins of Saint Petersburg Economic Forum on June 1-3. I promise to do my best in order that the strategic partnership between our countries to resume in full. I am sure this will happen despite anything", Dodon wrote.

He stressed that he consistently advocates for establishing close cooperation of Moldova both with the East and the West.

"We have to meet, talk and establish cooperation with everyone for the good of our country. Only over the last several months, I had a number of successful negotiations with leaders of many countries, leadership of the European Commission and other international organizations. Moldova is doomed to establishing good relations with the West and the East. We have to communicate with all countries and protect interests of the republic and its citizens", Dodon stated.
