BUSINESS INCUBATORS ARE A GOOD BUSINESS SCHOOL – ECONOMY MINISTER

Business incubators is a good school of entrepreneurship, necessary in all Moldova’s raions, as it is a good platform for ideas, launching and developing small and medium sized business, said Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy Octavian Calmic at the opening ceremony of a new business incubator in Calarasi town.

According to him, the opening of a new incubator is directed to implementing the Government’s policy on rural business development.

“The development of business incubators allowed us not only support entrepreneurs in different localities, but also diversify areas of activity, create conditions for training young entrepreneurs, as well as give them chance to become more competitive in the domestic and external markets”, he said.

Head of Operations Section of the EU Delegation to Moldova Aneil Singh said that the project of business incubators proved to be successful for Moldova, as it helped to launch several enterprises in different fields of national economy, as well as create new jobs, launch new services and products on the domestic market.

“I am sure that the Calarasi business incubator will not stop at opening new enterprises, but also will become a platform for economic development for all Moldova’s raions”, Singh said.

According to Director of the Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises Sector Development of Moldova (ODIMM) Iulia Yabanji, the project’s cost is estimated at 8.5 million lei, 850 thousand lei of which were provided by the raion council. The business incubator will accommodate 26 companies, in particular, engaged in tailoring children’s clothes, textile and metal constructions.

The project on creating business incubators in Moldova was launched in 2009 by the Ministry of Economy with the support of local authorities, ODIMM, the EU and the Norwegian Government. Currently, incubators are operating in such localities as Stefan-Voda, Leova, Rezina, Singerei, Cosnita, Ceadir-Lunga, Nisporeni, Cimislia and Soroca. In total, 289 companies are working in incubators, 114 of which have already finished their incubation period. In total, around 950 jobs were created.
