21 june, 2017

Prime Minister Pavel Filip met on Tuesday evening with European Council Donald Tusk, asking Brussels not to connect the providing of assistance from the European Union with the change of election system in Moldova.

Filip pointed at the importance of macrofinancial assistance from the side of the EU, the continuation of support and relations with the IMF. He welcomed the decision, taken on Tuesday by the European Parliament Committee on International Trade on approving macrofinancial assistance and expressed confidence in positive conclusion on this issue at the European Parliament plenary meeting.

“We ask not to connect directly the providing of marcofinancial assistance with the changing of election system, as for providing it the Government and the European Commission fulfilled all the agreed preliminary conditions. This assistance is very important for Moldova and it will be directed strictly on reform implementation”, the Moldovan premier said.
Pavel Filip said that Moldova will be even more ambitious in achieving its goal on the path to European integration.

“We will demonstrate pragmatic, realistic and constructive approach. The successful implementation of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement and the fact that we made up for lost time in some directions, induces us to be even more ambitious and demanding in what concerns the achievement of goals at the European level”, Filip said.

According to the press release, the main topics discussed at the meeting were reforms, EU macro-financial assistance, draft law on election system changing.

The Prime Minister also touched upon the topic of the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels, planned for November 24, which according to him is a platform for confirming the unity between EU member countries and partner countries.

In his turn, Donald Tusk welcomed Moldova’s sustainable adherence to the European project and approved actions, taken by the Moldovan Government for guaranteeing its irreversibility, the Government’s press service maintains.
