INTERNATIONAL COMPANY TO REHABILITATE CHISINAU WASTEWATER TREATMENT STATIONS

17 august, 2017

The international consortium PASSAVANT ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT GmbH & LUDWIG PFEIFFER Hoch-und Tiefbau GmbH & Co. KG has won the international tender, announced by the Apa-Canal Chisinau on rehabilitating city wastewater treatment stations.

The rehabilitation works will be conducted within the program for developing Chisinau water supply service, financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Neighborhood Investment Fund.

The winner promised to fulfill the project, designed for 900 days, for 24.2 million euros.

The contract implies rehabilitation of the existing water line structures, building of a new pumping station and a new line of treating sediments.

Infotag’s dossier: The Chisinau system of water supply and sanitation is worn out by 70%. For its modernization, European partners agreed back in 2013 to allocate 61.8 million euros, which will allow renewing 190 km water supply pipelines, 3270 connecting blocks, 15 km of sewerage system, to modernize treatment and pumping station, as well as water reservoirs.

This is the eighth tender within the Program of Priority Investments, financed by the EBRD and the EIB, one of the most important, which gives start to work on modernizing wastewater treatment stations. The contractor has to perform a whole series of works, starting from detailed projection to establishing equipment and Apa-Canal personnel training.

The project should have been implemented much earlier, but investors blocked the money allocation due to the fact that the National Energy Regulatory Agency was reluctant to revise tariffs on water supply and drainage system, while the current tariffs do not cover the prime cost and do not allow the Apa-Canal enterprise to develop.
