COOPERATION BETWEEN MOLDOVA AND EU TO BE STRENGTHENING – PIRKKA TAPIOLA

The cooperation between Moldova and the European Union will keep strengthening, said Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, who is completing his diplomatic mission to Moldova, at the Wednesday’s meeting with Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Octavian Calmic.

According to the Ministry, the sides exchanged opinions about the process of EU-Moldova Association Agreement implementation, pointing at the considerable growth of trade. Besides, it was said that the signing of this agreement in 2014 had a positive impact on developing the Moldovan energy sector, industry, entrepreneurship, IT-sector.

The Deputy Premier expressed hope that in autumn two new projects will be launched in Moldova with contribution of the EU – a project on raising people’s awareness about the DCFTA (Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement) importance and the project “Support to Quality Infrastructure”.

“We also hope for support of EU delegation in implementing the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreement on trade procedures simplification”, he said.

The sides also discussed the preparation for conducting a meeting of the EU-Moldova Association Committee in Trade Configuration in Chisinau on October 18. Also, until the end of the year, the subcommittee on cooperation with the EU in DCFTA implementation in customs issues, intellectual property, trade and sustainable development. On November 6-7, it is expected that EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom will make a working visit to Chisinau.
