DCFTA IMPLEMENTATION ALLOWED QUITTING THE FEAR OF COMING TO EU MARKETS -ECONOMY MINISTER

24 august, 2017

The implementation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement allowed Moldovan entrepreneurs to get rid of fear of coming to European markets, maintains Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Octavian Calmic.

At the Wednesday's conference, dedicated to the completion of the EU project "Technical support for DCFTA implementation", he said that one of its most important elements was the training of entrepreneurs, as well as informing them about European market requirements, which allowed to motivate economic agents to diversify the exports.

Calmic said that within the project, over 3 thousand European standards have been adopted, while the EU market is determinant for Moldova, as more than 65% of products now are exported to Europe.

"We managed to consolidate material-technical basis in all laboratories, which are responsible for certification of goods for supplying to internal and external markets, while investments in equipment accounted for 40 million lei. Also, we managed to consolidate investment plans and to diversify services, provided by these laboratories", the Minister said.

According to him, it should not be forgotten about conditions and infrastructure, created for developing startups and small enterprises. Over two years of project implementation, two business incubators were opened - in Calarasi and Cahul.

Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola, Head of the European Union Delegation to Moldova, who is completing his mission to Moldova, said that within the project of technical assistance over 1.6 thousand enterprises got access to grants, which allowed creating at least 2 thousand new jobs. A new program "Women in Business" was launched, 15 foreign potential investors received support, and hard work was done for implementing European standards, which brought Moldova closer to the European Union.

According to him, four years ago, when he started working in Moldova, skeptics were saying that it is impossible to meet all European standards and come to the European market, but this still took place.

The head of the technical assistance project Philip Santens said that the implementation of different programs and projects proved its efficiency. Moldova adopted normative basis, which remained to be implemented.

"The Ministry of Economy is lucky to have the Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises Sector Development of Moldova (ODIMM), which soon will receive the first tranche worth 4 million euros as direct grant for continuation of its functioning", he said.

The project "Technical Assistance for DCFTA Implementation" was launched in 2015 and is designed for two years. Its budget accounted for 2.8 million euros.
