MOLDOVA AND UKRAINE CONFIRM ASPIRATION TO IMPLEMENTING EUROPEAN INTEGRATION REFORMS IN ENERGY SECTOR

Moldova and Ukraine confirmed their aspiration to implementing the European integration policy by means of implementing regulations of the EU Third Energy Package and forming transparent market rules.

According to the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, cooperation in energy sector has become one of the main topics of discussion at the 14th meeting of the Moldova-Ukraine Inter-Governmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation in Odessa.

The meeting stakeholders agreed that the implementation of EU Third Energy Package regulations and preparation for concluding direct agreements on cooperation in all the connecting points between gas transportation system operators on services of natural gas transportation via cross-border pipelines is an important step for forming condition of free trade between the two countries.

According to the message, the Moldovan side expressed interest in cooperation in transporting natural gas via trans-Balkan pipeline in direction Romania-Ukraine-Moldova-Ukraine.

Also, the sides confirmed interest in integrating the Ukrainian and Moldovan energy systems with the continental European energy system ENTSO-E.

The sides paid a particular attention to discussing of the draft Agreement on ensuring the functioning of the Dniester complex hydro-system and agreed to conduct necessary bilateral consultations for complete resolving of this issue.

Besides, within expert consultations, the sides agreed to study the possibility of implementing the project on building a section of the Novoodesskaya-Artsyz power line in the territory of Moldova.

An agreement was achieved on activating the work on joint checkpoints on the border to finish the preparation and signing by the end of 2017 of an intergovernmental agreement on joint control of persons, transport means and goods at joint customs stations.

Meeting participants expressed readiness to ensure the opening of road vehicle traffic (including of heavy trucks up to 3.5 tons) through the international checkpoint Unguri-Bronnitsa. As for the Mayaki-Palanka-Udobnoe customs station, the sides agreed to develop organization solutions for accelerating the border crossing, including the ensuring of electronic data exchange.

After the meeting, commission Co-Chairmen, Deputy Premiers Octavian Calmic and Stepan Cubiv signed the protocol, in which key results and top-priority goals of the sides in the nearest time are established.
