OVER ONE-HALF OF MOLDOVANS DISCONTENTED WITH ECONOMIC SITUATION – POLL

Over one-half of Moldovan citizens (53.6%) are discontented with the economic situation in the country, showed the results of the opinion poll, published by Institute of Development and Social Initiatives (IDIS) “Viitorul” on Tuesday.

According to the poll, 19.9% respondents are not very content with the economic situation, 12.4% are partially content, 2.75 – are content, while 0.2% – are very content. Also, 80% of respondents maintain the country is going wrong direction, while 8% say the direction is correct. Besides, the share of people who maintain the direction is wrong sharply grew by 20% year to date.

The poll also demonstrated that 30.4% are discontented with their life in the country, 27.6% are very discontented, 25% - partially, 15.1% are satisfied and only 1.5% are very satisfied with their life. 39.5% respondents maintain that over 5 years, people’s life in the country became worse, 16.6% – much worse, 11.7% – better.

Most of all citizens are concerned about low salaries and pensions (56.9%, high prices (50.3%), poverty (37.3%), diseases (15.9%), outflow of citizens from the country (15.4%) and the financial crisis (11.6%). Less of all people are concerned about the establishment of dictatorship (2.5%) and climate change (1.2%).

About 67% respondents in difficult situations rely on their family, 16.7% – on relatives, 11.4% – on friends and acquaintances, 4.6% – neighbors. Moldovan citizens do not trust in police or local administration: only 3.6% and, respectively, 2.9% respondents voted for them.

11.4% people support the raising of retirement age, while 82.5% stand categorically against it. One third of citizens (32.6%) are ready to pay a part of salary in private pension funds, while 56.6% – do not want this. According to citizens, the pension reform, approved by the Government, is profitable only for deputies and ministers (69.1%), prosecutors and judges (51.1%), as well as mayors and councilors (36.8%).
