ECONOMY MINISTRY DISCONTENTED WITH UNGHENI-CHISINAU ROAD REPAIR

11 octomber, 2017

Deputy Premier, Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Octavian Calmic expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of works on reconstructing the Ungheni-Chisinau road, including the ring road around Ungheni, conducted by the Czech company “OHL ZS”.

At the Ministry’s joint working sitting with the contractor on Tuesday, Calmic said that the rehabilitation of national roads is one of Government’s priorities, agreed with development partners, which are supporting projects by different funds.

“In such conditions we will take the most strict measures to achieve the fulfillment of works in time”, he stressed.

Deputy Premier demanded the contractor company leadership to present a weekly plan of conducting works with clear terms of commissioning each section of the road.

OHL ZS representatives recognized that both subjective and objective reasons are causing work protraction. They promised to do their best to prepare everything necessary by the end of the year and to fulfill all the set tasks next year. The traffic on the ring road around Ungheni should be opened already on October 31, 2017.

Deputy premier stressed its importance for Moldova, as due to this road the length of way to the Sculeni customs station to the new bridge across the Prut River, which will be built in partnership with Romania, is reduced by 20 km. Besides, the ring road will considerably reduce the transit flow via Ungheni.

As Infotag has already reported, the problem with protracting works on the Ungheni-Chisinau road is dragging out since 2015. The work of the Czech contractor caused indignation of former Transport Minister Iurie Chirinciuc as well. He established the deadline for work fulfillment – before the end of 2016, otherwise threatening to break the contract.

Infotag’s dossier: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the European Commission provided 80 million euros for repairing 92 km of the Chisinau-Ungheni road.
