04 december, 2017

Company Danube Logistics – investor and operator of the Free International Port Giurgiulesti, forecasts that volumes of cargo transshipment by will be record in 2017.

According to the interview of company Director Tomas Moser to the Logos Press newspaper, over 10 months of this year, the volume of container cargoes transshipment accounted for 660.91 thousand tons, which is almost 13% more than over the equivalent period of 2016.

The company top manager said that this year the exports of grain in sea containers is lower than expected due to the unprofitable market situation in Asia.

As for the competitive advantages, provided by the port to economic agents, Tomas Moser told about Moldova’s joining the world sea container transportation by means of weekly service via the Constanta port (Romania).

“Thus, the Giurgiulesti port offers competition to sea container transportation via Ukrainian ports. In Constanta port there are enough containers we can quickly mobilize for exporting goods from Moldova”, Moser said.

With all this, the manager said that in Moldovan port containers may be loaded to the maximum allowed level without weight restrictions, which exist while transporting containers by trucks to Ukrainian ports.

Currently, the International Free Port Giurgiulesti ensures exports to almost 50 countries of the world.

“The ports contributed to ensuring diversification of petroleum imports to Moldova, which is important for the country’s economy. Due to the port, petroleum products are imported from eight countries”, Tomas Moser concluded.
