NOT EVEN 100% GDP GROWTH IS ABLE TO IMPROVE LIVING STANDARDS IN MOLDOVA – PREMIER

18 may, 2018

Prime Minister Pavel Filip gave a public lecture in Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) on Friday. He said that even a 100% GDP growth is not enough to improve the living standards in Moldova.

According to him, it may seem that the 4.5% economy growth [in 2017] is much, but it should be compared with the general GDP.

“Once I had the chance to get acquainted with a research which was examining the reasons of richness and poverty of different countries. The document included many analyses, according to which it does not matter how big or small a country is, as there are big and poor countries and small, but rich countries. The same situation is in the field of natural resources. The conclusion is that rich countries are those renowned for their supremacy of law and where there is less corruption. This is a cornerstone for the country that claims to be called developed”, Filip said.

He said that after the establishing of the supremacy of law and the victory over corruption, each country has to choose a model of economic development to be guided by in future.

Filip maintains that the informational technology industry should be a priority for Moldova, for which the legislative basis was developed in the field of opening IT parks.

“Since the moment when this law entered into force (early 2018), the number of IT park residents exceeded 170. I am sure that big fishes are still going to come, because there are many companies, interested in working in IT parks”, he said.
