21 may, 2018

The Moldova’s Customs Service will strengthen control for preventing the African hog cholera spreading. A corresponding decision was taken at the Monday’s special sitting of the South Customs Bureau and the administration of the Giurgiulesti Port Veterinary and Phytosanitary Post.

According to the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), heads of customs stations at the border with Ukraine demanded to put more efforts to fight the disease, as well as to inform citizens, who are crossing the Moldovan-Ukrainian border, about the prohibition to import pork from Ukraine.

Control was conducted on four customs stations for the observance of the ban on pork importing, citizens informing about the consequences of virus spreading, as well as confiscation and destruction of the prohibited products.

Also, services agreed to cooperate for preventing the appearance of new disease hotbeds in Moldova.

Infotag’s dossier: Three hotbeds of African hog cholera remain active in Moldova so far: in Palanca village (Stefan-Voda raion), Besghioz village (Ceadir-Lunga) and Tvardita (Taraclia). The appearance of the disease in Moldova was due to the illegal importing of pork by Ukrainian villagers.
