EU CONSIDERING POSSIBILITY OF RAISING EXPORT QUOTAS FOR MOLDOVAN GOODS

05 june, 2018

Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi met with EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia MalmstromВ in Geneva.

The Commissioner said that the European Union is studying the possibility of raising quotas on duty-free supplying of a number of Moldovan goods to European markets.

According to the Moldovan Ministry, she pointed at the need of harmonizing the Moldovan legislation in trade with requirements and principles of the international law, as well as the agreements with the World Trade Organization.

The European Commissioner invited Moldova to participate together with Georgia and Ukraine in a meeting in September where the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement will be assessed.

"The exports diversification, trade liberalization and national economy strengthening creates necessary conditions for developing investment climate in Moldova, which will contribute to political dialog enhancement and approaching to EU standards and values", Ulianovschi said.

He petitioned for the raising of quotas on exporting Moldovan goods, including honey, grapes and products of animal origin.
