11 june, 2018

The National Railroad Company of Moldova (CFM) intends to repair 250 km of railway lines on the section Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti at the expense of credits from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.

According to the CFM, the tender to select a contractor is planned to be announced already in 3Q2018.

The project presentation will take place on June 20 in the CFM office. After that, potential participants will be transported on the sections of road that are planned to be repaired.

The project of CFM restructuring, approved back in 2015, implies the buying of rolling stock and rehabilitation of railway infrastructure. The EBRD and the EIB plan to allocate 52.5 million euros of credits, while the European Commission - a grant of 5 million. The first part of contract implies the buying of 11 diesel engines for transporting passengers and cargoes. A part of money is supposed to be used for capital repairing of problematic sections of the railroad, including Chisinau-Ungheni and Ungheni-Ocnita, which are a part of international corridors. According to specialists, for infrastructure and rolling stock rehabilitation CFM will need at least 400 million euros, except the costs of road electrification.
