MOLDOVAN ECONOMY GREW 3.7% IN 1Q2018 - STATISTICS BUREAU

In the first quarter of the current year, the Republic of Moldova's gross domestic product marked 37,609 million lei (US$2,238 million equivalent) in current market prices, having grown up by 3.7% against the January-March of 2017. With an account of seasonal corrections, the national economy grew 3.6%, and against 4Q2017 it fell by 0.8%, the National Statistics Bureau has reported.

According to it, the economy felt a positive influence of wholesaling and retailing, technical maintenance activities, repairs of motor vehicles and bikes, hotels and public catering businesses (+1.2%), transportation and storing, whose gross added value went up 6.3%, and their share in the GDP reached 20.4%, etc.

Upon the economy's whole, the gross added value has increased by 3.6%, having influenced on the GDP growth by 3.1% and reaching a 85.7% share in the GDP.

The Bureau has reported that starting from this year, it calculates all indicators according to the UN methodology of computation of the system of national accounts, version 2008, and according to the European system of accounts, version 2010 (SNA, UN-2008/SEC-2010).

Infotag's dossier: In 2017, the Republic of Moldova's GDP grew 4.5% in a real expression. For the year 2018, the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure is projecting an economic growth of about 3.8%. The World Bank shares this expectation, but the International Monetary Fund and the EBRD believe the figure should not exceed 3.5%.
