MOLDOVA AND CHINA COORDINATE 70% OF DRAFT FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
The third round of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and China was successfully completed in Chisinau on Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the sides managed to harmonize 70% of the document text and Chinese partners accepted most of initiatives, proposed by the Moldovan delegation, headed by State Secretary for Quality Infrastructure and International Cooperation Iuliana Dragalin.
The discussions were dedicated to legal and institutional provisions, the rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures and technical barriers in trade. The new element included in the Agreement concerns the article on investments and is aimed at contributing to the attraction of Chinese investments into Moldovan economy.
Also, the sides started to discuss the principles of providing tariff preferences. The Moldovan team of negotiators hopes to protect the interests of domestic producers and to get a duty free access to the Chinese market for its agricultural goods and a number of industrial goods.
The fourth round of negotiations will take place in Beijing in November. In this context, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure invited the Chinese side to participate in the Moldova Business Week, which will take place in Moldova in late November.
In Moldova there are 85 companies with Chinese capital. The volume of their investments is estimated at 6.36 million lei over 1H2018.
