PRESIDENT DODON HAS NO DOUBT HE WILL REVISE ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT IN CASE SOCIALISTS WIN ELECTION

06 december, 2018

In case the Party of Socialists (PSRM) wins the February 24, 2019 parliamentary election, Chisinau will enter into negotiations with Brussels on the EU-Moldova Association Agreement, Moldovan President Igor Dodon stated in his interview with the International Politics and Society (IPJ) Portal.

Dodon maintains that the Association Agreement was signed when it was yet a raw document.

"The signatories failed to take our country's interests into a due account. That has led to a serious imbalance on the external and domestic markets, and has inflicted damage to Moldovan producers. This situation must be corrected because thousands of Moldovan producers sustain colossal damages", stated the President.

He is perfectly sure that upon winning a parliamentary majority in 2019, the Party of Socialists will necessarily draw up a new draft of the Association Agreement adapted to Moldova's economic needs.

Concerning his frequent voyages to Russia, the head of state said that he visits international events the Republic of Moldova is interested in, events giving possibilities to correct "the serious foreign-political mistakes committed by the Government of the Democrats".

"If I personally hadn't embarked most seriously on restoration of good relations with the Russian Federation, our country would have suffered a tremendous economic and social damage. I have managed to return to the Russian market a considerable part of Moldovan exports and to achieve a migration amnesty for tens of thousands of Moldova citizens working in Russia", said President Dodon.

Igor Dodon underlined that last few months he had outlined with a maximum-possible clarity his stance on external policy issues that stipulates a balance in Moldova's relations with the West and the East.

"Permit us to resume good relations with the Russian Federation, seriously undermined by our incumbent Euro-unionist authorities and, at the same time, to maintain partnership interaction with Western countries in a mutually respectful format", said President Dodon.

"However, such priority of the country's foreign policy does not coincide with the strategy worked out by the incumbent Government", he stressed.

"The Government's strategy, on the contrary, presupposes a fierce propaganda campaign against Russia and burns down many of the bridges between us and the East, which I am trying to restore. As concern Moldova's relations with the West, since 2009 all Moldova Governments have practiced the styles of behavior of a servant, of a humble subordinate that are only undermining Moldova's sovereignty. But the irony of the situation is in the fact that all those Governments were largely a real disappointment to the representatives of the West", said Igor Dodon.
