MOLDOVA TAKES OVER ENERGY COMMUNITY PRESIDENCY

28 january, 2019

Moldova's top priority during the presidency in the Energy Community will be finalizing the discussion and finally adopting amendments to the Treaty establishing the Energy Community.

According to the organization's website, Moldova took over the rotating presidency of the Energy Community on 1 January 2019 and will also put emphasis on ensuring a more consistent policy on sustainable energy production and consumption.

The press release says that the discussion on Treaty amendments is going on already for the last three years and it is high time to finish it before EU parliamentary elections to ensure that the Energy Community can fulfill its objectives and live up to the requirements of a single energy market.

A key priority for 2019 is the adoption of the 2030 targets for renewable energy, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reduction in the Energy Community through transposition of the recent EU Clean Energy Package for the Energy Community Contracting Parties as well.

As Infotag has already reported, the Treaty establishing the Energy Community was signed on October 25, 2005 for creating a common regulatory space for energy market in the EU and the Southeastern Europe. Moldova is Energy Community's full-fledged member since May 2010.
