DODON SAYS HE HAS AGREED WITH PUTIN CONCERNING MOLDOVAN TRANSIT THROUGH UKRAINE

31 january, 2019

Moldova President Igor Dodon stated on Wednesday that he had reached an accord with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the transportation of Moldovan goods through the territory of Ukraine.

Commenting on the results of his meeting with Putin in Moscow today, Dodon wrote on his Facebook page: "The accord with Vladimir Putin is as follows: on the Moldovan President's request, starting from today all Moldovan goods can be transited over to the Russian market through the territory of Ukraine. Along with the lifting [as from this past January 1] by the Russian Federation of customs duties on Moldovan goods, this new decision should permit to essentially build up the trade turnover between the two countries within a short time", wrote Igor Dodon.

Without elaborating on the details of this latest accord, Dodon only wrote that the two Presidents exchanged opinions on all essential issues of the Moldo-Russian cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres.

According to him, the interlocutors discussed the situation developing in Transnistria.

"We have confirmed our resolute position that a lasting settlement of the Transnistrian problem can only be achieved on the basis of preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders", wrote Dodon.

According to him, he expressed confidence that after the parliamentary election, Moldova will come to have a Government, one of whose priorities will be the restoration of relations with the Russian Federation and bringing them back onto the track of a mutually beneficial cooperation and strategic partnership.
