10 april, 2019

The Atai Company in Moldovan has purchased the southeastern Europe’s only synthetic rubber manufacturing factory – the Romanian company Carom SA Onesti, reported the media of the neighboring country.

According to the media reports, for several years the Carom SA Company was been put up for sale by the R&IGroup SRL – the liquidator of the Energy Bio Chemicals (EBC) Company, which owned the company but entered into the bankruptcy proceedings a few years ago.

The value of the early April transaction has not been reported yet. At the last auction, the declared price was 4.6 million euros. It included the equipment and fixed assets, premises and a total area of 245 hectares.

The Atai SRL Company in Chisinau has a share capital equal to 137,350 lei. Anatoli Grosu is the company’s only owner. The company trades in chemical substances; it owns several companies in Romania and Uzbekistan.

The Carom SA Onesti was the only synthetic rubber manufacturing factory in Romania. The company was founded in 1960s and was part of the Petrochemical Platform Borzesti up to 1990s, established by the order of former Romanian leader Nicolae Ceausescu, who had actively advocated for the petrochemical industry development in the country. After 1990, the Petrochemical Platform Borzesti was divided into three commercial companies: SC Rafo SA Onesti (refining unit), SC Carom SA Onesti (petrochemical unit) and SC Chimcomplex SA Borzesti (chemical unit).
