MOLDOVAN CARGO TRANSPORTATION VOLUMES GREW 4.5%

Moldovan freighters transported over 2 million tons of cargoes in January-February, which is 4.5% more than a year before. Only in February the transportations exceeded 1.2 million tons (+11.5%).

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the road vehicles remain the main means of transportation, over one-half of all cargo transportations in January-February accounted for it – 1.2 million tons (9%). Then the railroad transportation comes – 752.5 thousand tons (-3.4%). Air transportation volumes grew by more than one-half (57.2%), though the volumes are still very modest – only 300 tons.

The situation with cargo transportation is also positive, the growth accounts for 9% - to 706.9 million tons/km.

In the field of passenger transportation by means of public transport the growth was also registered – 1.2%, exceeding 16 million people. However, this is only in the field of road transport – 1.4% and water transport – 2%, which grew to 15.6 million and 10 thousand, respectively. In the field of railroad transport and air transport decline was registered – by 7.1% and 3.2%.
