The forth-generation mobile networks (4G) provide internet for 97% of the population from 94% of the territory of Moldova, and 3G covers 99% of the territory and population.

According to Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Chiril Gaburici, the Internet is an engine for country’s development, since 10% increase in broadband internet penetration contributes to 0.24-1.5% of increase in GDP.

“In 2018, the access to the internet through the broadband network reached 76%. Improved communication quality occupies a special place in the list of priorities of the Ministry of Economy, which why last year many initiatives were launched for the sector development”, said Gaburici, who was Director General of the Moldovan mobile operator Moldcell in 2008-2012, and in 2012-2014 he occupied a similar position in the Azerbaijan Company Azercell Telecom.

The MoE noticed that the important aspects, which contributes to the broadband internet access in Moldova, is the proximity to main international lines of broadband data transfer. Four main fiber-optic transport networks were created at the national level and connected to these main international lines.

Thanks to the quality of access to the Internet, as well as geographical location and governmental political documents, the first IT Park was opened in Moldova at the beginning of the last year; 413 companies became residents of these IT parks, including 114 with foreign capital.
