STANDING COMMITTEE SUSPENDS CONTEST FOR ANRE DIRECTOR

23 september, 2019

The parliamentary Standing Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance suspended on Monday the contest for filling the position of National Energy Regulatory Agency. According to the decision of majority of contest commission members, the interviews with two candidates were postponed for indefinite term.

Chairman of the Commission Igor Munteanu reminded to journalists that only five persons submitted documents for participation in the contest, two of which were allowed to the next stage (the interview).

“Recently, we received additional information the commission has to check. It is about some addresses, directed to the National Integrity Organ and the National Anti-Corruption Center (NACC), which are too important to be ignored”, he said.

The MP refused to specify what information it is about and who of two candidates it refers to, promising that the details will be made public after the commission checks the information.

A commission member, MP Sergiu Sirbu of the Democratic Party regards as unjustified the postponement of the interview. He supposed that this was done as the candidate who was expected to win, failed to submit documents or has not passed the first stage.

“The current parliamentary majority has already discredited all the possible contests. It is unclear what additional materials they want to study. We saw questions to candidates with questions prepared in advance. All members of the commission have questions and answers, thus the supposed winner can easily get these”, he maintains.

As Infotag has already reported, the commission allowed Iacov Timciuc and Lilian Barcaru to the second stage of the contest. Timciuc is holding the post of head of the ANRE Department for Energy Supervision since February, while in the period of Communist Party rule (2001-2009) he was member of the Cabinet of Ministers and Moldovan Ambassador to China. Barcaru is holding the post of Head of Division for Quality in the ANRE Department for Regulation, Investments and Quality since 2008.
