Following the results of the first half of the year, the minimum living standard in Moldova accounted for 2028.3 lei (US$113.9) per capita per month, against 1895.7 lei compared with the equivalent period of 2018.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), it is not correct to compare these indicators, since the new data on the population (according to the results of the last census), new coefficients and changes in the calculation methodology have been used in the new study.

Statisticians estimate that the highest subsistence level is 2.205 lei for the residents of Chisinau and Balti, which is 10.5% more than in other cities of the republic (1994.7 lei) and 11.8% more than in rural areas (1971.7 lei).

People of working age have the highest subsistence level – 2181.5 lei, especially men – 2355.8 lei, against 1985.5 – women. For children the figure is about 1927.7 lei and ranges from 753 lei for children not older than one-year-old – to 2198.8 lei for children aged 7-17.

The average monthly salary of the population in January-June (7113.6 lei) exceeded the minimum living standard by almost three times. The subsistence level for pensioners was 1726.5 lei with an average pension of 1895.1 lei as of July 1.
