The volume of cargo transshipment through the Giurgiulesti International Free Port broke its previous record, reaching 1.1 million tons in 2019. During the year, the goods were exported through the port to 44 countries and imported from 27 countries.

Mathias von Tucher, the Director General of the port’s operator Danube Logistics SRL company, said that in 2019 the port managed to raise 9% the transshipment of dry cargoes in bulk, 24% – general goods, 16% - sea containers.

“These successes confirm our investment program, which will allow doubling the port capacities on transshipping dry cargoes. Within next 3 years, the port residents plan to invest over US$35 million and create around 130 additional jobs”, he said.

According to him, areas of 40 thousand square meters in the port business park were sublet to Moldovan companies for building storage, packaging and processing capacities.

As Infotag has already reported, in 2018 the transshipment of cargoes through the Giurgiulesti port have for the first time exceeded 1 million tons, ensuring imports from 33 countries and exports to 53 countries. The Danube Logistics is a division, solely owned by the Dutch company Danube Logistics Holding BV, while the economic interests, connected with participation of the latter in the Danube Logistics SRL, are shared with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Danube Logistics SRL is the largest investor in the Giurgiulesti International Free Port, investing into terminals of bulk and dry cargoes and the development of the port business park.
